For small and medium-sized lawns with just a few trees, an electric mower is recommended as it is lighter and more manoeuvrable than a petrol mower. Mowing can only become a bit difficult when the lawn has reached a certain height, so frequent mowing is therefore a must.

The electric mower has the edge in terms of handling and transport due to its low weight, and the cutting results are precise and clean.

The lightest representative of SABO’s electric mowers weighs just 14.5 kilograms, but with 1100 watts it is still extremely powerful. Thanks to its electric operation, it produces no emissions.

There’s also no need for maintenance such as changing oil or spark plugs, and no need to store fuel. The only prerequisites for your purchase: a freely accessible power connection and an approved extension cable.

Nature shows the way: Plant parts, leaves and other organic material form a protective covering and thus ensure healthy soil. This principle can also be used in your own garden: Mulch mowing is not only a particularly environmentally friendly method, lawn lovers also save time and money on maintenance. When it comes to mulching, opinions […]

WHICH TYPE OF GRASS FOR WHICH PURPOSE? Not all lawns are created equal. Because there are at least as many different seed mixtures as there are uses for them. When selecting the right grass seed, apart from location and soil condition, the most important factor to consider is how you intend to use your lawn. […]

Robot mower, electric mower, or maybe a petrol mower after all.

Choosing the optimal lawn mower – not an easy decision that gardeners have to deal with. After all, which model is best for maintaining your own greenery? Mowing robot, electric mower, petrol mower or perhaps a lawn tractor – anyone thinking about buying a new garden helper should know which device is particularly suitable for which area of use.

Depending on the size of the plot, your own preferences and maintenance requirements, there are various models to choose from. An important factor is the cutting width. The larger it is, the less time it takes to care for the lawn. For example, 100 square metres of lawn can be mown in around ten minutes with a cutting width of 33 centimetres, whereas only around four minutes of work are required with a cutting width of 53 centimetres.

The efficient classic: petrol mower

The petrol mower is suited to lawns from 700 to 2,500 square metres. It also copes effortlessly with gradients. SABO offers models with cutting widths between 40 and 54 centimetres. In combination with the powerful yet economical petrol engines, efficient mowing is guaranteed. For areas with extensive trees, the petrol mower is preferable to a corded electric mower due to its greater mobility. If you cut your lawn infrequently, you should ideally opt for a model with a side discharge: it can easily cope with tall grass.

The compact lightweight: the electric mower

For small and medium-sized lawns with few trees, an electric mower is recommended as it is lighter and more manoeuvrable than a petrol mower. It only becomes difficult when the lawn has reached a certain height – frequent mowing is therefore a must. The cutting results are precise and clean; the electric mower has the edge in terms of handling and transport due to its low weight. The lightest representative of SABO’s electric mowers weighs just 14.5 kilograms, but with 1100 watts it is still extremely powerful. Thanks to its electric operation, it does not produce any emissions. There is also no need for maintenance such as changing oil or spark plugs, and there is no need to store fuel. Prerequisite for purchase:
a freely accessible power connection and an approved extension cable.

Full battery power

The powerful lithium-ion battery with 40 volts and 4 Amps delivers power for excellent cutting results and can be easily removed for charging. The modern rechargeable technology is a clear plus for the environment, as no exhaust gases or local emissions are produced – but also for the ears, because the brushless electric motor operates extremely quietly and energy-efficiently. To start, simply press and hold the start button and tighten the safety bar – and your SABO cordless mower is ready for powerful cutting work. Thanks to the powerful battery technology, the blade speed of SABO cordless mowers is higher than that of petrol mowers, for example.

This not only gives you an excellent cutting pattern, but also a completely full catcher bag, as the grass cuttings are optimally collected.

The chic soloist: robotic mower

The solution for a beautifully manicured lawn without much effort: let it be mowed! This is made possible by a fully automatic robotic mower. Quiet and reliable, it performs its service completely independently in almost any weather. When the power decreases, the robotic lawnmower moves to the charging station to get new energy. Models such as the SABO MOWiT 500F SERIES II, for example, can cope with slopes of up to 36 percent in the mowing area and complex planted gardens. Another plus: the fine grass particles remain on the lawn as natural fertiliser. However, a prerequisite for the use of a robotic lawnmower is the professional installation and laying of the boundary wire.

SABO sets course for the future

SABO Maschinenfabrik GmbH changes its ownership from Deere & Company (John Deere, NYSE:DE) to Mutares SE & Co. KGaA. The transaction is expected to close by the end of July 2020.

SABO is one of the leading brands for high-quality lawn mowers and garden care products in Europe. Since 1932, the company has been located and manufactured in Gummersbach, Germany and has been part of Deere & Company since 1991.

Mutares is a private equity company based in Munich, which specialises in the acquisition and management of medium-sized companies. Mutares currently owns 13 companies in three industry segments: Automotive & Mobility, Engineering & Technology and Goods & Services.

SABO will retain its workforce, brand, manufacturing location and portfolio of walk-behind lawn mowers and portable garden tools. The company will continue to supply its customers in Germany and other European countries with high-quality products and services. For employees, customers, suppliers and sales partners, little will change in everyday business.

According to Tim Merrett, Vice President John Deere Turf and Utility, SABO is one of the leading brands for high-quality lawn mowers and walk-behind garden equipment in Europe. The company is very well positioned, especially with its broad portfolio of high-performance battery systems. Nevertheless, John Deere intends to focus more on core production systems as part of its recently announced “Smart Industrial” strategy. Future investments in walk-behind mowers no longer represented a strategic fit.

Johannes Laumann, CIO of Mutares is pleased about the addition of SABO to the Goods & Services business unit and welcomes the SABO employees to the Mutares family. SABO is a very well known brand in the garden and outdoor market. Laumann is convinced that Mutares’ proven expertise and operational experience make it the best choice as the new owner to drive SABO’s growth. Mutares has very ambitious goals in terms of growth and speed, as they are currently successfully demonstrating with the keeeper Group. Mutares is determined to successfully realise SABO’s potential.
